Digital Memory Medical Technologies (DMMT) develops an orthopedic device for healing fractured bones. The developed prototypes demonstrated a dramatic reduction in the healing period.
The device allows both compression and distraction with weight bearing, which are controlled by a "memory" that adjusts itself to the natural walking rhythm of the individual patient.
The device requires no intermediary connections between the device and the pins, and allows the surgeon to apply compression across the fracture site, which may be desirable during the early period to prevent pain and protect delicate vessel growth, reducing the compression, partially or completely at any later stage, simply by turning a screw.
DMMT is part of the BioJerusalem Accelerator.
