Groundwork BioAg
Groundwork BioAg Overview
Groundwork BioAg, a leading bioagriculture company, produces highly effective mycorrhizal inoculants to tackle the global challenges of food security and climate change.
Drawing on decades of R&D, Groundwork BioAg was the first to crack the code on the mass production of high-quality, supremely concentrated mycorrhizal inoculants for the global commercial and regenerative agriculture markets. Groundwork BioAg has developed a nature-based solution for carbon dioxide removal that leverages the role of mycorrhizae as carbon’s main pathway into the soil.
Our products are already supercharging permanent carbon sequestration on millions of hectares globally while boosting crop productivity, improving soil fertility, increasing plant resilience, and reducing fertilizer usage.
Groundwork BioAg envisions the world’s cropland regenerating with mycorrhizae and every farmer benefiting from higher yields, fertilizer savings, healthier soils, and verifiable, premium carbon credit revenue – all without altering cultivation practices. Nature’s most potent carbon removal solution is now in every farmer’s hands.
Groundwork BioAg Climate Tech relevance
Mycorrhizal fungi are carbon's main pathway into the soil. Scientists estimate that mycorrhizae can sequester up to 13.12 Gt of CO2eq annually. Modern agriculture, however, has destroyed much of the microbial soil matrix, releasing 785 GtCO2eq into the atmosphere in the process. Mycorrhizal inoculation, the most effective method of restoring microbial communities in agricultural ecosystems, promises to mitigate climate change by permanently drawing down that carbon back into the soil where it belongs.
Mycorrhizal symbiosis is based on mutually beneficial exchange: the fungi provide precious nutrients to plants, and the plants return the favor with photosynthesized sugars (carbohydrates), 20% of which is stored as soil organic carbon. Groundwork BioAg is already regenerating millions of acres of cropland with mycorrhizae. The bottom line: mycorrhizal inoculants can significantly and permanently sequester carbon to scale net-negative agriculture and counter climate change.
Groundwork BioAg has announced that its flagship mycorrhizal inoculant – Rootella – has been approved for commercialization in China, Argentina, and South Africa, expanding farmers’ access to a climate-smart solution to optimize plant and soil health, adding approximately 677 million acres (274 million hectares) of harvested cropland to the company’s potential customer base.
