QD-SOL develops photocatalytic hydrogen production systems that use quantum dot technology to convert sunlight and water directly into hydrogen without the need for electricity, membranes, or rare materials. The system is modular, fully off-grid, and designed to offer a low-cost, scalable alternative to electrolysis for industrial and distributed applications.
By eliminating conventional energy inputs and infrastructure requirements, QD-SOL’s solution supports flexible deployment of clean hydrogen generation in remote and resource-constrained environments.

QD-SOL Climate Tech relevance
With energy production causing 90% of global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from fossil fuels and industry, the world needs sustainable energy now. QD-SOL's solution is to produce green hydrogen through using nanoparticle photocatalysts that are inspired by photosynthesis, meaning that unlike most hydrogen production up until now, it can deliver cost-effective hydrogen production suitable for more diverse and flexible applications than solar-powered electrolysis. QD-SOL’s new technology aims to supply 1.5% of the world’s green hydrogen within ten years, meaning that it will be taking an important step towards the goal of net-zero by 2050.
