QD-SOL
QD-SOL Overview
QD-SOL develops technology that uses sunlight as a renewable source of energy to split water for the purpose of green hydrogen generation.
Unlike many current water-splitting methods, which are energetically unfavorable and contaminating, QD-SOLs technology efficiently uses the unlimited resource of sunlight to yield a clean splitting process.
QD-SOLs nanoparticles provide a stable and efficient photocatalyst, offering an innovative solution for green, low-cost, nonpolluting hydrogen production.
QD-SOL Climate Tech relevance
With energy production causing 90% of global carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from fossil fuels and industry, the world needs sustainable energy now. QD-SOL's solution is to produce green hydrogen through using nanoparticle photocatalysts that are inspired by photosynthesis, meaning that unlike most hydrogen production up until now, it can deliver cost-effective hydrogen production suitable for more diverse and flexible applications than solar-powered electrolysis. QD-SOL’s new technology aims to supply 1.5% of the world’s green hydrogen within ten years, meaning that it will be taking an important step towards the goal of net-zero by 2050.
