SemiConductor Devices
SemiConductor Devices Overview
SemiConductor Devices (SCD) manufactures high-end infrared detectors and laser diodes. The company’s vertically integrated production structure allows strict quality control throughout the various processes, from crystal growth to device packaging and testing.
SCD’s in-house capabilities include semiconductor processing, LPE and MBE growth, VLSI design, dewar and vacuum technology, assembly and radiometric modeling, and testing.
SCD is equally owned by Rafael and Elbit Systems and operates as an independent commercial entity.
SemiConductor Devices Climate Tech relevance
SCD has developed a broadband detector that can capture images from the visible to the extended SWIR spectrum on hyperspectral space cameras. It can be used to film Earth from space, covering a wide area of territory with high resolution and a large number of pixels, and can differentiate between materials via distant passive sensing.
The company's detector can identify natural vegetation and camouflage, a variety of minerals on land and their density in the atmosphere (such as aerosols and water vapor), oil spills and pollution at sea, plant diseases, and more.
