Tracense develops nanotechnology-powered detectors for explosives. Its sensors are designed to detect all known explosives, as well as narcotics and chemical and biological threats. The company's developments in the field of nanotechnology have enabled the fabrication of large nanowire arrays on a small semiconductor chip. Tracense creates an electrical sensing device (FET transistor) out of each nanowire, which is triggered by the intrinsic charge of the target molecules. The small dimensions of each device make possible the creation of low-cost arrays of hundreds of nanosensors in a small area. In turn, the large number of sensors improves reliability and versatility, and enables a battery of simultaneous tests to be performed on a single chip. Tracense has developed proprietary intellectual property to manufacture the sensing chips, detection devices, and software needed to analyze all types of samples.
