In September of 2008, Red Hat acquired an Israeli start-up named Qumranet and transformed it into an R&D center, working entirely according to the Open Source model. The Red Hat R&D center in Ra’anana is a central pillar in the development of the company’s Cloud Solutions, focusing mainly on the development around Virtualization and OpenStack Platforms as well as Openshift which is the Kubernetes Containers solution from Red Hat. All these products are running on top of the KVM technology, originally developed by Qumranet The Open model is the heart of the Red Hat culture worldwide as well as in the Ra’anana office.

The Engineering office in Israel is collaborating with different universities and colleges in the area: IDC Herzliya – The Interdisciplinary Center Herzliya is a private research college in Herzliya, The Technion – Israel Institute of Technology is a public research university in Haifa and MTA – The academic college of Tel-Aviv Yaffo.
