Founder of health information technology companies that have merged with Siemens, Inc., United Health Group, Inc., and Aetna, Inc. Presidential Appointee in the Bush and Clinton administrations.
Those roles in the Bush '41, Clinton, and Bush '43 administrations related to health care and national security. Appointed by President Bush to Chair Health Committee of President's Information Technology Advisory Committee (PITAC). Their report, Revolutionizing Health Care through Information Technology created the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT. Served as Special Employee of Undersecretary of Defense and continues to serve as a senior fellow in National Security Health Policy Center of the Potomac Institute.
Previous expert consultant to the World Bank, the National Institutes of Health, the Health Care Financing Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, and the ministries of health of United Kingdom, Sweden, Australia, Japan, and the Netherlands.
Author of more than 200 publications related to health care delivery and seven U.S. patents. He authored the first book on computers in medicine and has published more than 200 scientific works in peer-reviewed journals. His first novel, Capitol Reflections, was published by Sterling and Ross, to critical acclaim.
