Intravenous (IV) catheter insertions are common procedure, but have failure rates as high as 44%. With an estimated market size upward of $1.8B annually in the U.S. alone, there is a tremendous potential for a device capable of reducing failure rates. We are developing the SAGIV, a hand held, Semi Automatic Guided Intravenous device. The SAGIV utilizes infrared technology to assist in the identification of veins for cannulation, and inserts the cannula on caregiver demand, utilizing electrical feedback for precise vein penetration.
